A film crew was downtown Thursday shooting a commercial for Lexus cars.

Some roads may be closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to complete the shoot.

… two likely locations are Bayshore Drive and the elevated portion of the Selmon Crosstown Expressway that meanders through downtown.

The Lykes building and South Regional Garage, next to the St. Pete Times Forum, also might be featured, as well as a boardroom on the 21st floor of the SunTrust building. In all, 15 possible locations and streets have been mentioned, she said.

There is not a whole lot of filming done in the area. In other parts of the country, film crews are as plentiful as Starbucks. But we have had a few.

The Tribune says we have had other ads filmed here recently, including for Blue Cross Blue Shield, Volvo, and Nike. I couldn’t find videos of those, but friends at Skyscraper City remind us of a GoToMyPC.com advert filmed in Tampa and a commercial for the Toyota Matrix filmed here a few years ago.

My favorite Tampa setting on film was The Punisher with John Travolta. Crappy movie, but great Tampa locations around the seedy edges of the Channel District and best of all, in and around what should be Tampa’s signature contemporary building, the Harry Wolf tower at the corner of Ashley and Kennedy downtown. I love that building and it looked so fantastic in the movie, even when it was on fire.

Tommy, don’t forget that there was a real cool Cadillac SUV commercial where it drove by the cables on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and strummed them like a harp. :)
