dakota, virginia, carolina, now florida?
After listening to the Florida Legislature debate ridiculous laws (such as the necessity of Truck Nutz), North Lauderdale and the City of Margate are beginning a push to split Florida and establish a new, 51st State:
25. RESOLUTION – SUPPORTING SEVERING THE TIES OF MIAMI-DADE, BROWARD, AND PALM BEACH COUNTIES FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA AND ESTABLISHING THEIR OWN 51ST STATE OF THE FEDERAL UNION OF THE UNITED STATES; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. (Requested by the Mayor)
Yep, they want to secede and become South Florida.
Check out radio WIOD and listen to interviews of South Florida officials who have had enough with Tallahassee.

Some people are going to see this and think “good riddance!” Others, like myself, think this is aobut time and another sign of how out of touch Tallahassee has been regarding the needs of the state and priotities.
While the major metro areas of Miami-Dade, Tampa/St. Pete and Orlando have pressing needs that require progress, the Legislature has been in status-quo/regression mode from one extent to another the last 10+ years.

they do realize of course that isn’t up to them. It sounds like they are trying to embarrass The state government. Of course our current legislature really has no shame so I doubt it will work.

So we get stuck with North Florida then? No Fair.

Culturally, Tampa Bay is much closer to North Florida than it is to points south. But trust me, most of the Panhandle considers us Yankees and would just as soon cut the state off somewhere around Ocala anyway. Central Florida has a whole different species of Whack( per capita student-banging teachers, Willy Crane, the Aisenbergs, Joe Redner running for office, former American Idol contestant goes wild, and the list goes on and on and on) found nowhere else.
