AutoVantage Road Rage Survey Finds Tampa “Most Likely to Multi-task, and Eat and Drink”:
The commute to work can be an unpleasant one for people across the country, and the road seems to be getting even bumpier for Tampa drivers.
The third annual In The Driver’s Seat Road Rage Survey, commissioned by AutoVantage, a leading national auto club, found that Tampa drivers, tied with Baltimore and New York, ranked No. 1 for being the most likely to observe other drivers eating or drinking while driving every day, compared to 24 other major American cities. Tampa drivers are also most likely to observe other drivers multi-tasking (like putting on makeup, shaving or reading) while driving ever day.
Overall, Tampa was named the ninth least courteous city in terms of road rage in the survey.
Thank your gods McDonald’s stopped serving that McDLT (some assembly required). But seriously, you people have to manage your time better. You can’t be eating while driving. After all, your children are watching.
Bonus link for our friends over at Stuck in the 80’s: Jason Alexander (aka George Costanza) sings his way through a McDLT advertisement, looking a bit like a Miami Vice extra.

Personal anecdote from the 1990’s while I was in HS. I would bum rides off my older brother who had this fixation on both gettign to school fast and early.
Every morning we would be heading out to school - eight miles away, thank you Pinellas County School board for that stupidity — and I got to watch with horror as my brother found different ways to distract himself while driving at a high rate of speed. Maybe it was tuning his radio, sometimes it was warming his hands on the car heater on a chilly morning. Other times it was fumbling around, lookign for CD’s while his hands should have been on the wheel and eyes on the road.
And if I spoke up I got attitude back. If I skipped the ride, I caught hell on the bus (where my brother was not popular, so I became the surrogate target).
I’ve seen enough stupidity from drivers since then - txting while they should be driving, talking with their hands and tryign to re-assure people about nothing in particular while driving 70 on I-275, etc, etc…
And people wonder why I am always found in the mass transit posts on this blog :p
