money’s tight, and county’s wasteful
Hillsborough County and the Hillsborough County School Board are arguing over who is supposed to pay for infrastructure improvements around new schools.
Of course, it doesn’t matter to you who pays, since it all comes out of our pockets anyway. But that the two governments are taking the battle to court ensures that you will pay even more to settle the argument, since you are also paying the attorneys for both sides of the matter.
But the “who’s responsibility” problem goes beyond Hillsborough County. The rest of the state is closely watching what happens here, because the issue has come up in counties across Florida.
Unfortunately for taxpayers, this first round is just that - the first round. Whoever loses will likely appeal. Which will guarantee that your tax money goes to lawyers and court costs instead of red lights and sidewalks.

Both parties are protecting their budgets and their jobs. Remember, the first duty of any bureaucracy is its own perpetuation. Believe me, nobody is worrying about the cost to taxpayers - that would be settinga really bad precedent.
