You might recall that just over 10% of registered voters took part in the August primaries in Hillsborough County.  The final total was 66,150 of 650,739.

The Times is reporting that 74,047 people in Hillsborough County have already requested ballots to vote by mail as of last Thursday. That’s about 11 percent of registered voters.

In the primaries in Pinellas County, turnout was just over 12 percent. But this time around, the county elections office has already received nearly 106,000 absentee ballot requests - 17%.

The Presidential race will have a lot to do with any increase in turnout, but if you want to get on the bandwagon, make sure you are registered to vote, and if you don’t want to bother with finding and early voting location, or go to the polls on election day, check with your county’s supervisor of elections to getcha one of those absentee ballots.

And if you are new to these parts, make sure to register by October 6th (that’s this MONDAY) with the Bay area county Supervisor of Elections office in your county. Here are the links to the various Web sites for registration AND absentee ballot information:
