Former Florida State Sen. Helen Gordon Davis will be honored Oct. 16 at a luncheon at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Tampa hosted by the Centre for Women and the Displaced Homemakers Network.

The senator’s long and distinguished legislative career was highlighted by her work promoting the civil rights of women and children. She founded the Centre for Women, established Displaced Homemaker centers throughout Florida and chaired the League of Women Voters Justice Study that led to the current system of electing state and county judges.

Davis was honored with a ceremonial resolution this year by the Florida House and Senate noting her many achievements. Sen. Arthenia Joyner of Tampa and Rep. Antiere Flores of Miami sponsored the resolution which will be presented to Sen. Davis at the luncheon.

The community is invited to the event. The luncheon costs $35, which does NOT include a donation to the Centre. For information or reservations, call (813) 251-8437, extension 225.
