for tax collector and property appraiser

Tax Collector

Doug Belden is running against Beverly P. Harris for the Tax Collector office.

Your Tax Collector:

  • Collects property taxes for every local government agency with the power to levy taxes.
  • Serves the state as an agent for the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission, and the Department of Revenue.
  • Manages local revenue programs, such as issuing occupational licenses and collecting tourist development taxes.

The Hillsborough County Tax Collector’s office collects and distributes over $1 billion annually.

Basically this person is an Accounts Receivable supervisor with side jobs in issuing driver, hunting and fishing licenses.

Not much to say, other than Belden has kept his name out of the newspaper, which means no one is complaining about the job he has done.  Further, when I checked Beverly’s website over two days last week, it was not working.  If you can’t even keep your website running…

Both the Tribune and the Times recommend Belden.

Property Appraiser

Rob Turner is trying to hold off challenger Ken Ayers for Property Appraiser.

Neither of them have websites (that I could find).

The Trib’s endorsement of Turner says Ayers has mostly just been a pain in Turner’s neck.  The Times also recommends Turner, and they almost forget to mention Ayers in the blurb.

I’ll agree with both papers on both races, and vote for Belden and Turner.

Aaaah…but a couple of posts prior to this one you had a link to a newspaper article about Beldon getting his drink on??? Not totally out of the paper, perhaps?

Don’t know enough about either candidate really but keep these posts coming. They’re helpful.

Maybe you should do a little more research before you decide to support Doug Belden and you will find out that Doug Belden recently lost a law suit where a federal judge ruled that his office violated public procurement laws and the sunshine laws when he awarded a lucrative contract to his life long friend harlan logan. This lawsuit cost Hillsborough Tax Payers hundreds of thousands of dollars not to mention the company Belden illegally awarded the contract to has received close to 400% in fee increases over the past 6 years. This contract gives beldens friends close to $12 million dollars per year in fees. And guess who pays those fees, the Hillsborough County residents. Please find the case…….First Hillsborough Tag Agency, Inc vs Hillsborough County Tax Collector.

And i also want to add that i was one of the principals of First Hillsborough Auto Tag Agency. Our company lost the bid to Dealer Tag Agency Inc whose principals had ties to belden (which no one new of course until later.) My company bid the contract at 12.00 for same day service and the company that won bid 15.00 for next day service. We lost and now that same company we lost to has an unlimited fee they can charge and they even charge some residents of Hillsborough up to $55.00 for tag fees!!!! Guess what? We sued and we won. Dont vote for Belden.

Jason why aren’t you running for office instead of throwing rocks? The reason Belden is gonna win again is because nobody else worth a damn is running against him. We got plenty of critics, I just don’t see anybody stepping up to get on the ballot (except Kevin Beckner and, um, Joe Redner).

In response to carl says, obviously you are’nt up with current events. I am a resident of south hillsborough county and have known Mrs. Harris and her family for many years. If their was anyone in this county I would vote for it is Her. I’m tired of hearing about our public officials who can’t keep their willie wacker contained in a public place. Let alone doing something as stupid and arogant as awarding a county contract to a close friend and campaign contributor. What about the pictures of doug belden as seen in the tribune and times, give me a break, I’ve seen this man outside the county center smoking and wondering where his next drink was coming from, this fat, arrogant slob looks nothing like the pictures in the media. He’s a looser……….
