In Hillsborough County politics, it has become quite normal to find elected leaders facing some challenges that go beyond the last (or next) election.
Phyllis Busansky wasn’t one of those.
While others are mired in all sorts of muddy messes, Phyllis has been a true champion for her constituency, always seeking the best remedies for the county, rather than those that would make her more popular (electable) or fill her pocket.
She is the one that pushed for Hillsborough County’s nationally acclaimed indigent health care program.
Most recently we were hoping she would somehow find a way out of the mess that Buddy Johnson left behind in the Supervisor of Elections office.
Phyllis was found dead this morning. Our thoughts go out to her friends and family, and she will be dearly missed by all of us.

We have so few sane and honest local politicians, we really can’t afford to lose any. What a shame.

I’m sure there are othe honest politicians somewhere in Hillsborough County that TRULY care for their constituency, I just can’t think of one at the moment.
Fabulous Phyllis suire did. She was a Wonder Woman adn a fearless fighter for those who needed a champion. Read up on her in the coming days, folks. You will be amazed.
There are a lot of healthy people, and people who are getting healthier every day here in Hillsborough who owe Phyllis.
She pushed for her pet project, the County Indigent Health Care Plan, and got it through against all odds.
This was her crowning glory and her greatest legacy.
And a whole lot of folks who avail themselves of it today have never even heard of Phyllis. And that didn’t bother her in the least.
She was a great humanitarian and a believer in doing the right thing.
She was never afraid of taking an unpopular stance even when it was not politically wise to do so.
She was a vey cool woman.
We’re all a little bit poorer today. She had already laid the foundation for straightening out the Supervisor of Elections Ofice which her antitheses Buddy Johnso left in an absolute shambles.
I hope whomever is appointed as her successor continues her good work there.
If they fail to do so, Phyllis will probably haunt them.
She always seemed to have supernatural powers when it came to getting thing done.
I have no doubt that somewhere, she still does.

Profoundly sad loss for Tampa. A kick in the gut.
God bless Phyllis, her loved ones and friends.

This was very sad news to hear. She might have been 72, but she seemed much younger and vibrant than her age revealed.
