Wanting to “spend more time with her husband” in Knoxville, Tenn., Tampa Tribune Executive Editor Janet Coats is leaving the Tampa Tribune and the Florida Communications Group effective Dec. 18.

“We’ve been commuting between Tampa and Knoxville for the last 20 months and we’d like the opportunity to live together in the same ZIP code,” Coats said.

Coats joined the Tribune in 2004 and became executive editor in 2005. In 2008, she was named vice president for news for the Tribune, TBO.Com and WFLA Newschannel 8.

Tribune Publisher & President Denise Palmer will will assume Coats’ responsibilities.
