Yesterday was a rough day for local hockey fans. A dark day. A sad day.
Dave Andreychuk has been waived from the Lightning. There is a pit inside my stomach that will not go away. The man who carried this team to a national championship, who dared the rest of us to dream, who whipped younger players into shape…oh, I suppose we still have Martin St. Louis and Fredrik Modin and the rest of them…but it won’t be the same.
I can no longer go to a game and search the bench or rink for #25. An era has come to an end.
Ahh, well. I still have the memories. It will have to do.

Kate, the term isn’t “National championship” but Stanley Cup Championship. Collegiate championships are considered national championships… The NHL is an International league with teams in two countries – quite international so to speak.

I sincerely hope Dave Andreychuk, my all-time favorite Bolt, didn’t get complacent after hoisting the Stanley Cup then taking a year off. I had a bad feeling about his future when he showed up sporting that Opening Night mullet, and the results so far this season speak for themselves. Maybe a little time in Springfield (and a few Duff beers, d’oh) can help him regain perspective. Either that, or he should step out gracefully and work at his restaurant across from the Forum full time.

Thanks John. Perhaps I should stick to politics and parenting from now on.
Way harsh, bamaroller. *sniff sniff*
