a question … or two or three or more

Please tell me why the person used to demonstrate the new body scanning machines at Tampa International Airport – as seen on the Metro front in Friday’s St. Petersburg Times - is a buff young woman and not a fat old man? Whomever she is – let’s call her Big Boobs Girl – certainly does not represent [...]

cop’s secret identity revealed

Former St. Pete Police Officer Ken Kokotek retired, and unveiled his secret identity.  Picasso is the screen name Ken used on the Law Enforcement Officer Affairs (LEO Affairs) website while ripping the higher-ups on the force as well as the City of St. Pete administration and others. Apparently, he’s pretty good with photoshop, too: In one, Mayor [...]

criss angel implodes in clearwater

Kind of on the spur of the moment, I attended the much-hyped Criss Angel event at Clearwater Beach last night. The illusionist was scheduled to “escape” from the condemned Spyglass Inn live before it was imploded on his A&E television show. I was just excited to see a building imploded, something I’ve always wanted to [...]

new menu for polk inmates

Sheriff Grady Judd has changed the menu at Polk County Jail: The new menu, announced with much fanfare Wednesday, substitutes crackers, frozen egg patties and water for cornbread, fresh eggs and a variety of beverages, and will save an estimated $195,000, Sheriff Grady Judd said. He said he hopes to eventually cut $200,000 from the jail’s [...]

fender benders are inconvenient

First off, it just sucks to be involved in a car accident.  Even the smallest crashes are irritating.  And if you or your wreckmates have any damage, someone has got to have the police come in to write up a report. And you have to be patient.  Real patient. Cops are a busy lot, what with all [...]

kickball turns violent

A small group of neighborhood girls go to the city park to enjoy the fresh air and play a game or two of kickball.  The following week, another neighborhood puts a team of girls together to compete with the first.  After a few weeks, there are seven neighborhood kickball teams.  They all play against each [...]

sunpass not working?

Apparently, there is A Fine Mess Over Tolls For SunPass Users: Growing numbers of SunPass users and a push by the state to improve its toll-collection rate have resulted in more people facing hefty fines and suspended licenses for seemingly minor violations. Sixty-six percent of all toll road users now have transponders. Those transponders have batteries. [...]

soliciting donations

Maximin Andre Pierre was arrested Sunday afternoon for soliciting donations while playing saxophone in Ybor City.  Police said they warned him "several times" before arresting him for "vending in Ybor City without a permit." We here in the Sticks are glad to hear all the real crime has been cleaned up.

crime at usf and polk county

April 9, 2008Leave your thoughts!

The Tampa Tribune says the Polk County Jail housed more people per capita than any jail in the state in 2006, and ranked fifth in the nation among cites or counties with their own jail systems. Sixty percent of the crimes committed on USF’s main campus are from people who have no affiliation with the school.  [...]
