Creative Loafing is under new ownership from New York.  Atalaya Capital Management outbid Ben Eason for control of the network of alternative weeklies based in Tampa. With papers in Chicago, Sarasota, Atlanta, Washington DC, Tampa, and Charlotte, Atalaya plans to keep them all for now with a new management team that has plenty of media experience.  [...]

You might recall that just over 10% of registered voters took part in the August primaries in Hillsborough County.  The final total was 66,150 of 650,739. 28, of Sarasota, Fla. assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.; killed Jan. 13 when his OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter came under attack by enemy forces using small-arms fire near Sukar, Iraq. Also killed was Chief Warrant Officer 3 Mitchell K. Carver Jr. Jackson was born and raised in Sarasota. [...]
